Raqqa: Textile Merchants

Date: Late tenth century

The geographer, al-Muqaddasi (or al-Maqdisi, d. 991) reports that the mosque of al-Raqqa (ancient Kallinikos) was located in the market of the textile merchants. He does not explicitly state that textiles were manufactured in the market, though this seems likely. See also: Silk weaver; Textile dyer; Wool merchant.
