Palmyra: Architects

Date: 1177

An inscription records the construction in 573/1177 of a tower (burj) in Palmyra (Tadmur) by the Ayyubid Muhammad b. Shirkuh. This work was conducted by Ghanaʾim b. ʿAbd al-Wahhab. See also: Stone-cutter; Mason; Carpenter.

Palmyra: Architects

Date: 1237-38

An inscription dated 635/1237-38 records that Nasih al-Din Yusuf was responsible for the restoration of the mosque in Palmyra (Tadmur). He was assisted in this task by ʿUmar b. Ismaʿil and Siddiq b. Yaghmur. The inscription was carved by ʿUmar al-Miʿmar (‘the Architect), who might be identified as ʿUmar b. Ismaʿil. See also: Stone-cutter; Mason; Carpenter.

An inscription records the restoration of a mosque in Palmyra (Tadmur) by order of the Amir Hiba b. Amir ʿIsa in 700/1300-1301. This work was conducted by the muʿallim (master), ʿAbd al-Karim b. Salim b. ʿAbd al-Karim. See also: Stone-cutter; Mason; Carpenter.
