Jebel Heish (Jawlan/Golan): Provision Bag Makers

Date: early-nineteenth century

These bags are most often used for the storage of wheat and barley. The materials used to produce these include camel hair or goat hair, or a blend of both. The poorest people use camel’s hair only, as goat hair is seen to be of better quality and a higher value. Much like other weaving and knitting activities in this area, Bedouin women are mostly involved in the construction of these bags. Also mentioned are: wool manufacturers, camel bags, bonnets (mèaraka) and tent-covers (rowáks).
