Damascus: Wool Merchants

Date: c. 1840

Sir John Bowring (d. 1872) notes that there were fifteen sellers of woollen textiles in the Syrian capital. They were considered to be some of the most affluent of the shopkeepers in the city. See also: Producer of Sheep Wool; Maker of Felt Floor Coverings; Maker of Horse Coverings.
