Aleppo: Makers of Cord and Twine
Date: c. 1840
Sir John Bowring (d. 1872) notes that hemp was cultivated in Aleppo. This was manufactured into types of cord and twine. Many of the artisans in this craft were situated just outside the gates of Aleppo, where they did not need to pay for shop rentals. See also: Cultivator of Hemp; Rope Maker.
